On International Women’s Day, American Friends of University of Haifa spoke with Prof. Shulamit Almog, Presidential Advisor on Gender Equity at University of Haifa and Head of its Diversity and Equality Unit to discuss the state of gender discrimination within higher education and beyond.
University of Haifa is proud to be a leader among Israeli higher education institutions in paving a path forward to achieving gender equity for its women faculty. Currently, 45% of the University’s faculty members are women — exceeding most other major higher education institutions in Israel.
Prof. Shulamit Almog has overseen the University’s strategy to tackle the issue head-on by establishing a Gender Equity Unit at University of Haifa, submitting a strategic plan to the Council for Higher Education. The plan measures ways in which higher education institutions address gender inequity for the 2021-2025 academic years.
